چکیده

The Airborne Science Initiative is a collaborative effort between the School of Aviation, School of Surveying, School of Civil Engineering and School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales. Harnessing the equipment and skills of the team, a series of beach surveys have been performed to gather data about beach dynamics over a period of six months. Long range weather forecasts have predicted that a major storm event will occur in 2011 with the development of a deep low pressure system in the Tasman Sea. Two beaches were chosen for the study; Narrabeen and Wamberal, in an effort to document beach erosion before, after and during a major storm event. This paper documents the design of the system, the data flow and the analyses techniques used. Results of initial accuracy testing are provided, along with other results available at the time of writing. Finally, future development and missions are discussed. .

Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and "Structure from Motion" Software to Monitor Coastal Erosion in Southeast Florida

of a thesis at the University of Miami. Coastal Erosion poses a significant threat to several coastal communities in Florida. Ecosystem managers are tasked with both protecting the community from storm events and preserving the natural ecosystems found in the coastal zone. The most widely utilized method for shoreline protection in Florida is beach renourishment. Beach renourishment projects ar...

Vehicle Based Waveform Laser Scanning in a Coastal Environment

This paper presents the results of an investigation into the use of a waveform lidar system from a ground based vehicle. Data was collected using a Riegl LMS Q560 laser scanner mounted on the roof of a Landrover driven along a 7 km stretch of coastline at Filey Bay, North Yorkshire, UK. An IMU and differential GPS unit, part of IGI’s AeroControl system, were used to provide measurement of senso...
